Wednesday Whatever - Remember these?

Good morning. Got back from my trip to the Kansas Speedway around Midnight on Sunday night. Tired, but not bad considering I was the driver and had not slept well Saturday night.

We left town at 8:00 on Saturday morning, stopped for some gas & groceries 15 minutes from here, then set out on the highway for the rest of the trip. Made one stop in St Joseph, MO for a pop and "relief", then headed straight to the track, arriving at 12:45. The area had grown a LOT since I was last there 5 years ago, and one place I wanted to find was Arthur Bryants..a BarBQ place I'd heard had some good food. I took our normal exit, and since Yahoo maps showed 3 streets coming off of the road I was on, with Bryant's being at a "Y" between 2 of them, took the first left turn. This was a mistake because it took us into a mall parking lot.

It was then I decided to just give up and go to the track. We found our way to the street just on the North side of the parking lot and got pointed in the right direction when I saw the building I was looking for. We had already decided to just enter the track and grill some stuff, so that's what we did.

The parking lot was a bit soft, but I had no problems driving around and getting parked (had rained the day before). Weather was decent I guess...warm, but with a nice breeze. The rest of the day I spent sitting around people watching while my buddies went into the track for quals and the truck race. Race got over around 7:30 and we sat around until about 8:30 to let traffic die down. We then decided to see how busy Bryant's was, since we now knew how to get there. Much to our surprise, they weren't very busy, so we went in.

I had a combo of a pulled pork sandwich, beef brisket sandwich, fries, and a huge glass of pop (44 ounce I think). It was really good, but the pulled pork I've made is better. *grin* I haven't done a brisket myself yet, but that's one of my upcoming projects.

Sunday we left the hotel at about 8:30 and headed to the track, stopping for gas and ice on the way. Would have bought some beer too, but the County we were in can't sell beer until noon on Sundays. We took the first road into the speedway lot, and got the closest parking spot we've ever had there. Second row from the fence around the ADA lot.

That's about all there is to tell...Sunday was spent like Saturday, and the trip home was uneventful.

Thanks for reading.
